Gangster Theme Wedding

Bergandi and Ryan wanted something different and fun for their wedding day. They wanted the day to reflect a Gangster/Mob Theme. Since they are both in the army, they had already gotten married two years ago. This way they could stay in contact with each other when, and/or if, either one was sent away.

They hired Angie Switz from By Your Side Wedding Coordinating to help put the whole day together.

For photography coverage, they decided to start the day with Getting Ready photos at their hotel in Saint Paul. From their we headed out for city shots at The Landmark Center, The Saint Paul Hotel, Rice Park, ending up at The Wabasha Street Caves where their ceremony and reception were held. The couple wanted to take photos where infamous gangsters were seen, put on trial and frequented.

To keep the feel of the day in the photos, we customized many of the images to look like they were taken years ago. (the couple received an original color file as well as the altered file of each image)

All the ladies dolled up with fish net stockings, peep toe pumps and garters that held a small flask hidden inside.

Hot pink and black were the colors of the day. The bride opted for a fun pink, flowered dress, instead of a traditional white or cream tone.

A cake topper was hand painted to match the brides dress, hair and tattoos.

Guests were invited to join in the fun by dressing up in gangster and flapper style attire.

During the ceremony, the ring boy carried a Tommy Gun wiith the rings tied to the end of the barrel.

Vikings Photoshoot with the JDRF

Last week I had the fun opportunity to work with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation while they shot a PSA (public service announcement) commercial. During the photo shoot I got to meet Jared Allen, DE for the Vikings, and Chad Greenway LB for the Vikings.

I love all things sparkly. Growing up my family and I would go out to antique shops across the country, and my sister and I learned how to search out anything that sparkled. (my sisters nick name is The Ferret) My obsession has never faded, but like my obsession with shoes, I've decided it's cheaper to photograph all the things I would love to have, then buy them. So, I tend to go a little over board taking photos of jewelry, shoes, hair pieces, cuff links....really anything that shines and sparkles.

When you think about all the planning you've done for your wedding, no matter how prepared you think you are, be prepared for the unexpected. Whether the unexpected is good, or not so good. And when you think that something is going so off track, just remember, every wedding has it's glitch.

I've seen father of the brides stuck in an elevator for 2 hours, a giant cup of coffee spilled down the brides dress, zippers ripped out of the brides gown, flower arrangements burst into flames, a snow storm to beat all snow storms...... But I've also seen a wedding day rearrange itself so the father of the bride who was stuck in said elevator could still get to the ceremony by having the cocktail hour before the ceremony. A whole wedding party come together to get that cup of coffee out of the brides dress. An alterations specialist from Macy's arrive at the last moment to resew the ripped dress. A whole group of guests douse a flower arrangement so the sprinkler system didn't go off and ruin everything. And been happy to stay at a wedding over night with all the other guests, because we were all stuck at the reception because of the snow. The couples were still married at the end of the day. not only were they married, they now had a unique story to share.

Sara and Mark's story is the same way. September 30th, Sara and Mark's day didn't start out so well. Sara's father was taken into the E.R. for breathing problems, and Mark threw out his back, all before they were supposed to start getting ready for the wedding day. Mark had to be put on heavy pain killers all day, and Sara's father ended up having to be put into a medical coma, thus he missed the entire day. But, the show had to go on. Someone stepped up and brought in a video camera so they could record the wedding for Sara's father. (no videographer was previously planned) In a few weeks time, we are going to reschedule a family photo session, where everyone is going to re dress up, and take wedding photos again, so dad can participate.

The MN History Museum allowed the wedding party to come inside and take photos in one of the interactive areas. It was designed after a 50's soda shoppe.

During the ceremony, Sara's brother walked her down the aisle.

A family friend was allowed to be close to the front of the church to record the whole ceremony for the brides dad. During one part of the ceremony, the priest had all the guests and wedding party wave at the camera, while the videographer panned the room.

sweet treats

I love desserts! It doesn't matter what kind really, just something sweet after dinner. After Halloween I began to think back to all the fun wedding desserts I've seen. Just like with every other aspect of your wedding planning, there are so many options for that sweet treat after dinner.

Whether you do just a wedding cake...

cupcakes...

a dessert bar...

or all of the above, there are many different options to eat.

Personalized cakes and Groom's cakes are my favorite treats. They are so much fun to look at and take pictures of.

Cupcakes are another great way to end your dinner. You don't have to choose just one flavor and style.

They are great for each guest to have their own little treat...

or maybe you want to go big, and do one cake per person...

or at least one cake per table.

Truly, the kids are the one biggest fans of what you will choose, although they don't like to wait.

Flowers are great on cakes! Just make sure they are safe to have on your cake. There are thousands of ways to have flowers on your cake, a few simple real flowers...

hundreds of real flowers....

ribbons and flowers....

half real flowers, half frosting flowers....

just look really real flowers...

or made up of pure sugar, flowers.

You've got Cheesecake....

candy...

cookies...

wine pairing...

ice cream...

Flambe....

fruit...

tiny desserts....

tiger cake (or so my sister calls it)....

and lets not forget about the cake toppers!

Best Halloween Cake Ever

This cake was made for the wedding we shot on Halloween a few years ago. The couple loved Nightmare Before Christmas, and decided that this would be the theme for their cake and wedding.
All the characters from the movie were present on the cake made by Gateaux Inc in Plymouth, MN. The cake came with a 7 page instruction list on how to cut it and take it apart.
See, not all wedding cakes have to be white and flowery.

Most people like shoes. I, on the other hand, ADORE shoes! It's a love affair my husband is happy that I indulge...at least the way I do it. Instead of buying all the shoes I would love to have, I like to take photos of them.

Shoes are a very important piece of fashion when it comes to your wedding ensemble. They can say many different things about you, and the style of your wedding.

They can say, "Beauty is pain"...

or, "Comfy is cute".

Sometimes it works great to have everyone's shoes match,

even if it's only in color and not design.

Other times it's great when you let your wedding party go wild!

You never know what you may end up looking at.

What do your shoes say about you?

Sexy....?

Come hither?

Are they your Something Blue?

Do they say that you for surely "Do"?

Let's not forget about the guys. What options do they have? Many!

They can be comfy tennis shoes to.

Ode to Bridesmaids

When choosing your bridesmaids, make sure you give them a huge 'thank-you' for all they do for you on your wedding day. The day may be all about you and your fiance, but they are definitely part of the reason you make it through the day. (another reason to choose your ladies-in-waiting very carefully)

They will help you get dressed,

They will help tie or zip you into your gown so that it doesn't slip off.

They will make sure everything that needs to be under your dress is there, and fitting properly.

They will even put on your shoes for you and help you buckle them.

All while getting ready where ever there is a spare mirror to prop up somewhere and share.

Once you're put together, they will cheer you on and say how pretty you look.

During the day, they will carry or wear anything you ask them to. Whether it's a bouquet...

sunglasses....

a purse...

matching shoes and flowers...

umbrellas....

matching dresses...

different colored dresses....

all while trying to keep you happy.

They are your cheering section and/or dance party, before the ceremony starts.

For any intimate moments you need help with....

they will be there to hold your hand, and your train.

Once in front of your guests, they may cry a little,

but only while trying to coax either the flower girl, ring bearer or...you, down the aisle.

After that, they may cry more.

They will sign their name to make you officially a new wife.

After you have tied-the-knot, they will tie many knots under your dress to make sure you don't trip.

Whether it's a freezing ride across the lake...

or a warm sunny day, they will sit happily along side you and celebrate.

They will help make your electronics work for you during your reception.

and entertain your guests with a toast...

or two...

Just remember, however your day goes, hug a bridesmaid, and say 'thank-you'.

What an awesome idea! Use your beautiful pool area as a reception site! Ultimate Events helped create this fantastic use of space by creating a platform over the swimming pool to make more room for tables, as well as showcasing the beauty of the water.

They brought in huge chandeliers to decorate the ceiling over the swimming pool.

Guests who sat over the pool had a cool view of the water beneath them during dinner.

Betsy and Dale's Wedding

July 30th, 2011, Betsy and Dale said 'I Do' to one another at the historical Van Dusen Mansion in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The day was filled with fun, friends, an angel, music and much more!

The Bride fell in love with the angel statue the mansion had on display. The statue was one of the main reasons for reserving the location.

During the ceremony, the groom sang 'Marry Me' by Train, to the bride.

Sarah, Stuart and a Snake

I've known Sarah since she was about 8 years old. So I was thrilled when she and her fiance asked me to photograph their wedding. I was even more thrilled, when they told me about the photos they wanted to take before the reception.

Meet 8Ball. A lovable boa constrictor the couple adore at their college campus. After their Thursday wedding ceremony at Morris College, we took a side trip to one of the campus buildings to say 'hi' and hang out with this snake.

After all the photos were done, Sarah grabbed my camera, handed me 8Ball, and I got to have my photo taken with him. Best day ever!

Irish Wedding at Macalaster College

A wonderful cloudy day in June, made for beautiful photos.

Thistle was used in all the flower arrangements. It definitely added a unique texture to the decor.

Shannon wore a FANTASTIC necklace that she found at a shop in the Galleria in Edina.

Macalaster Chapel is a wonderful place for a photographer. I think it's one of my new favorite indoor ceremony locations. It's a round chapel, with windows that surround the sanctuary. It's easy to be invisible there, and get shots from every angle.

During the ceremony the couple did a traditional 'tying the knot' hand ceremony. Each of their children brought small ropes to bind the couple together with.

After the ceremony, the whole wedding party was escorted to the reception by a bag piper. They paraded across campus to their reception site a block away, dancing and partying.

Food was a HUGE part of their reception. They had a cocktail style reception, with multiple trays and assortments of appetizers being passed. After appetizers, a cheese, fruit, crackers and dips was set out to eat.

The groom is starting up a brewery soon! I'll get details and post for you soon. He had three of the beers served at their reception for guests to try. How fun!

Snacks and appetizers were not the only thing served. Shannon and Tom also had an elaborate dessert bar with cakes, cupcakes, candies, cookies, bars, lemonade, tea, soda...........

Guests enjoyed being able to capture their own moments in the Traveling Photobooth.

After the dessert bar was set up, another bar was set up, a whiskey bar!

The annual American Diabetes Associations Gala was held this past weekend at Treasure Island Resort and Casino in Welch, Minnesota. the goal of the event is to raise money to further education for Diabetes, and to aid children financially so they can attend Camp Needlepoint/Daypoint, a camp designed for children with Diabetes.

The room with full of different items to bid for. From wine baskets, to a lawn mower, jewelry, art, entertainment coupons, sporting items, and tons more.

Later in the evening, after the silent auctions were closed, the guests filtered into the ballroom for dinner, the live auction, and also some awards and presentations.

Fantastic photoshoot with Ian McFeron Band! We traveled to a wooded, fenced in area to start the shoot, then headed out to NE Mpls for some more rustic and industrial scenery.

They wanted the photos to look almost 70's ish in color. We altered the coloring of the images and added in some scratching effects to make the photos look dated in from years of wear.

We are so proud to announce that Coppersmith Photography has won for the 4th year in a row for Best Event Photography for the MN STAR Awards! Here is a summary of the event we won for!

We were hired to document a charity bike tour that helps raise money for diabetes research. The end goal for the money raised is to find a cure for Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.

This bike tour is held all over the county. Minnesota is one of over 43 states that support this bike tour, and our client has the job of running the whole event in Minnesota as the Event Manager.

The goal of our client in hiring a good photographer for this event, was to show what a fun and worthwhile charity this is for everyone involved, so that the most money possible can be raised for diabetes research.

We had to keep many things in our mind while photographing everything that went into this enormous event. We captured all the bikers during the ride, all the vendors involved and their products and services, and all the different volunteers helping out, all of which spread out over 161 miles through out the Twin Cities. Having photographs of all these different aspects of the event, in turn, helps bring in the people that will bring in the money to support the event.

What is specifically unique about this bike tour is that it doesn’t just go through one city, but many. It weaves through Minneapolis, Saint Paul, Hopkins, Saint Anthony and more, taking you through some of the most beautiful areas of the cities. It holds true to the idea of a ‘tour’ more then a ‘race’. The start line begins at Minnehaha Falls and curves down the Mississippi River toward Saint Paul, then depending upon which course you’ve chosen, twists you back around towards Minnehaha. Three of its routes directed you east on a pathway towards the city of Saint Paul, and after a mile or so, would start to split off depending upon which route you choose to ride on; the 7 Mile River Ride, the 27 Mile Scenic Sampler, or the 45 Mile Ultimate Urban Tour. A fourth route took you the opposite direction towards the western part of the city, the 62 Mile Wild West Ride.

The challenge with all these routes was to make sure that we were able to photograph all the important parts with in the times that they would each be used. Most parts of each route were used only once. Once the bikers passed by a location, they were not going to ride past it again, and once they all rode by a rest stop, they closed it down. we scouted out the rest stops and the places in between the rest stops that were picturesque, and calculated when the bikers would be passing by. We had a timetable of when each tour began and would finish, and how fast each bikers pace averaged. We had a map of all the different locations that the tour paths twisted through and picked out where the best shots would be seen, and what time would be the best time to be there. After calculating these times out, we picked out the best options to make it to, and that’s where we took our shots. We drove along with the bikers, ran along with some, and even stood across a large field to show the vastness of where we were at one point.

Vendors set up booths at all the rest stops to showcase the areas. Lake Harriet Band shell had multiple tents with food vendors. Harriet Island in Saint Paul had rest areas set up with snacks and water. Minnehaha had massage therapists waiting. Hopkins Coffee House had, what else, coffee and snacks. It was a great opportunity to capture people working with the different vendors, snacking on different vendor snacks, and capturing team photos.

Many bike companies came out to help bikers with any problems with may have along with route. They set up tents, and pulled up trucks with all their tools, and waited for bikers to come walking up with their broken bikes. We made sure to photograph all these moments to show these volunteers in action.

Once the bikers finished the tour, we were at the finish line to capture the bikers crossing the finish line. We were able to capture all the emotion and happiness of the people waiting at the end line, and team members congratulating each other on a great ride.

We took over 700 images at the event, ensuring we had captured the events complexity and details so our client would be able to create enticing event collateral and sell potential vendors on future tours, be able to ensure future riders to participate, and connect and hire volunteers to help work the event.

Twin City Bridal Associations, March Bridal Fair! It was a Royal Affair this time, to match the upcoming royal wedding of Prince William and Lady Katherine, which is soon approaching.

The entrance way reflected a Cathedral with a stained glass lighting effect on the curtains.

What a great way to keep your drinks cold by having an ice sculpture for a bar!

A very imaginative girl wanted to dress up and take her four year photos both inside and outside. We started with her Halloween costume, which was a fairy with giant wings!

To make the photo even more special, we added in some fun background effects and shadowed details on top.
Once indoors, she dressed up in the biggest white dress she had. She wanted to look like a bride and The White Queen, at the same time. Her great-grandmothers jewelry added a personal touch to the photo shoot.

i-jill Bat Mitzvah

A fantastic Bat Mitzvah decorated around an i-pod theme!

Lindsay from Amy Zaroff Events + Design, designed this trendy event around the most important girl of the night, Jill. Appropriately naming and branding the event 'i-jill' after the much loved i-pod, all the decoration reflected this theme through out.

Three enormous i-pod boards, displayed all the guests names and their seating destinations, while every candle in the room had the branded logo of i-jill in colorful lettering. A-List Entertainment provided their team of dancers, music and a large screen that displayed current photos of the guests dancing.

Fun, themed desserts were provided by Co-Co & Fig in front of a large i-jill backdrop

The room was glowing with hundreds of glow sticks lighting up all the tables. Gold fish decorated the teenagers tables, and mood lighting flickered between pinks, blues, greens and oranges. On the dance floor, the i-jill' logo was lit up all night long.

Behind the video screen, Jill was introduced i-pod style, with a shadow dance effect.

Dancing, toasts, family photos, eating, eating and lots more eating, filled the rest of the night.

November 20,2010, Jen and Duane were married at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis, with their reception at The Semple Mansion following. We are excited to say that their wedding will be featured in the upcoming Minnesota Bride Magazine!

After the ceremony, all the guests gathered on the church front steps to take photo together.

Beautiful tones of gold, yellow, ice blue were used to decor their event. Pine cones adorned the cake and center pieces all around the dinner tables.

ISES Star Award Nominee!

We've been nominated for The ISES Star Award in Best Event Photography!

In June of 2010, we photographed The Tour de Cure. We volunteered to document this charity bike tour that helps raise money for diabetes research. We provided photography coverage for our client allowing them the ability to show future fundraisers, all possibilities of the event.

In November, Amy flew down to Atlanta, Georgia to photograph The Wedding Guys Ultimate Wedding Planning Event, Unveiled.

The fashion show featured some of the most beautiful dresses by new and upcoming designers.

The entry way was done in a Zen fashion, with a peaceful water fountain in the middle, and unique lanterns hanging above.

The most amazing thing about the show was the indoor, clear tented reception rotunda. Inside showcased detailed dinner settings, unbelievable flower arrangements, and a five-tiered custom wedding cake!

Great Weekend

What a great weekend. Wedding at the winter carnival! We met with some new clients one of which is at what looks to be a great place to shoot in the Clyde Iron in Duluth. We will definitely be blogging about this one. Also booked one of our great Embassy suites packages.
If you are having your wedding at the embassy suites in Bloomington make sure to inquire about our deal. This summer is shaping up to be a nice one of course lots of work.

In 2006 Coppersmith Photography partnered with Twin City Bridal Association to be there official event photographer. The photographs of there Wedding fair have helped us to win the ISES Star Award for Best Event Photography 3 years in a row. One of the coolest weddings of the year! Laura and Cristof were married at the Minnesota History Center this past November.

Instead of doing a traditional sit down dinner, they opted for a dessert reception. They had multiple areas set up around the History Center for people to try out a variety of fruit desserts, cup cakes, wine pairings, apple flambe, champagne, cheese and more.

In staying with doing unique details, they used an old type writer for guests to type a message for the couple, then put the message into an old book for the guest book.

Mikaylas new comp card for modeling! She was fantastic to work with. I hope she does really well in modeling. Any company and photographer will have a very easy time working with her. She was very professional and not shy in front of the camera at all.
